Good morning, FSEM faculty,
We would like to highlight two academic opportunities for Winter Interterm 2019. Each of these courses focuses on supporting students who may need some additional guidance, so if you have students in mind, please pass these opportunities along.
For students who may be struggling and need assistance getting back on track:
CNP 1650: Unlearning to Learn
|Course Title:||Unlearning to Learn|
|Dates:||December 2 – 23, 2019|
|Course Format:||Online/distance with remote synchronus meetings on Mondays|
|Time:||4:00 – 6:00 pm|
Description: Introduction for students to gain self-awareness and broadening viewpoints to aid in their success as a student at the University of Denver. This course will focus on interactive and experiential learning around topics such as learning styles, emotional intelligence, strengths and virtues, and learning across difference. Note: this is an online, synchronous course that requires you to attend the course remotely via Zoom on Mondays from 4:00 – 6:00pm MST.
For students who may want to explore passions and have a new start in the New Year:
LDRS 2100: Finding Your Way: Discovering Meaning and Purpose
|Course Title:||Finding Your Way: Discovering Meaning and Purpose|
|Online Course Dates:||December 19, 2019 – January 2, 2020|
|Travel Course Dates:||January 3 – 5, 2020|
|Instructor:||Kate Willink & Paul Michalec|
Description: The Finding Your Way retreat is an opportunity to slow down and identify your passion, deep commitment, and calling. This retreat is an invitation to meet and develop relationships and sense of belonging with fellow DU students who are also struggling with finding ways to understand the emerging sense of self at the interface between the demands of academia, larger social pressures, and expectations from loved ones. You and group of 10-15 DU students are invited (not required), through small group conversation, reflective readings, personal time, journaling, and art to find your way toward wholeness. The retreat will provide participants with greater clarity on how to slow down and attend to one’s deep sense of selfhood with courage, fearlessness, and imagination.
The actual travel portion of the course is from Friday, January 3 -Sunday, January 5, 2020 at La Foret Retreat Center in Black Forest, Colorado. The course will begin online on Thursday, December 19th and will have online assignments prior to the retreat in January.
